Farmers’ Markets Reflect Flavor and Fun All Summer Long in the Flathead

    Nothing reflects the flavors, creativity and craft of a region like a Farmers’ Market. And only in an area as diverse as the Flathead can you ‘go to market’ in five different locations—Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Kalispell, Whitefish and even West Glacier. With newly established markets growing rapidly, and long time markets thriving—Flathead Farmers’ Markets are full time experience—five days a week.

    The legacy of glaciers and the nutrient rich glacial till they produce means some of the best farming soil in the Northwest—the proof that good soil equals great taste is available five days a week throughout the Flathead. And with the natural beauty of the area providing endless inspiration to the artisans, artists and craftsman—you can tickle your fancy or satisfy your taste buds.

    The Whitefish Farmers’ Market kicks off the five days of market freshness on Tuesdays from 5 – 7:30 p.m. whitefishfarmersmarket.org Located in Depot Park in Whitefish, just off Central Avenue, this market turns a lovely little block of city park into a social extravaganza. Get there early if you want to get the popular items (MeadowLark Bakery's booth often sells out) the range of local products is tremendous: fresh herbs to fruit (currants and mulberries regularly sell out), vegetables (so many!) and live string music wafting through the air, this is a great way to get a feel for local farmers and the pretty little town of Whitefish, every Tuesday from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at Depot Park.

    Across the valley and nestled at the foot of the Swan Mountains, try the town of Bigfork's Farmer's market. From raw honey to sculptures and even information about nutrition and how to use local produce, this is a great way to start your week. The original Bigfork Farmers’ Market runs May through October on Tuesdays, 3-6 pm, and Fridays 10 am-1 pm. You can find more information at: www.bigforkfarmersmarket.com.

    Thursdays you can take a foray over to Columbia Falls Farmers’ Market from 5- 7:30 p.m. cfcommunitymarket.com  This thriving local market is the market that rocks. Show off your beard, tats and rebel but with a definitive family friendly style. May 17th - September 27th, 2018 Thursdays 5-7:30. Columbia Falls Community Market offers friends, families, neighbors and visitors the chance to more conveniently live a farm-to-table lifestyle while enjoying each other’s company, live music, fresh food, desserts, artisan gifts and locally-brewed beer.  The weekly event is held every Thursday through the summer from 5:00pm until 7:30pm, beginning May 17, 2018.

   Fridays take a trip to Glacier Park and stop by the West Glacier Farmers’ Market from 4 – 6 p.m. 25 vendors sell sweet treats, fresh eggs and all the arts and crafts that you’d expect from a location so close the scenic beauty of Glacier Park. The market aims to provide a ‘welcome to the neighborhood’ atmosphere that welcomes friends, locals and travelers to stop and sit for a spell. Homemade bratwurst and vegetarian dishes tempt the taste buds, or maybe hand dyed fabric or beads are more your style—it’s all at the cute little market.

     Saturdays round off your week’s worth of Farmers’ Markets with the granddaddy of them all—the Kalispell Farmers’ Market. httwww.kalispellfarmersmarket.org/  Just like the old time markets, they offer a variety of products. Fresh fruits and veggies. Local meat. Crafts and art made here in the valley. Saturdays 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., May 5 - Oct. 13 2018.
